Wallpapering

Precise wallpaper hanging, feature walls, patterns and premium papers, with matched seams and clean alignment.

Wallpapering by BGDecorators in Hertfordshire

From a single feature wall to a whole room, we hang wallpaper neatly with the seams matched and the pattern lined up, the details that separate a professional job from a DIY one. We work with most papers: standard, washable vinyls, textured papers, and the heavier hand-finished papers that need a careful hand.

As with painting, the wall underneath decides the result. We strip old paper, make good and size the walls first so the new paper goes on flat, sticks properly and the joins sit tight.

What’s involved

  • Hanging standard, vinyl, textured and feature/hand-finished papers
  • Stripping existing wallpaper and removing old paste
  • Making good and lining or sizing walls so the surface is smooth and sound
  • Careful pattern matching with tight, flat seams
  • Feature walls and full rooms, worked neatly around sockets, switches and corners

What affects the cost

Every job is different, so we quote each one rather than publish fixed prices. These are the things we look at:

  • The number of walls or rooms, and the ceiling height
  • How much prep the walls need, stripping old paper and repairing the surface underneath
  • The type of paper, heavy, hand-finished or large-repeat patterns take more time and care
  • Pattern repeat and wastage, bold or large repeats use more paper
  • Whether lining paper is needed first for an even finish

How the job runs

Every job follows the same four stages, consultation, preparation, the work itself, then a proper clean-up. For wallpapering, that looks like this:

  1. Plan the room and quote

We look at the walls, talk through the paper you have in mind, tell you how many rolls to order for the pattern repeat, and give you a written, no-obligation quote.

  2. Strip and prepare

Old paper stripped, paste residue washed off, walls made good and sized — or lined where the surface needs it — so the new paper goes on flat and stays stuck.

  3. Hang the paper

Set out so the pattern sits square against corners and fixtures, hung with tight, matched seams and trimmed neatly around sockets, switches and trim.

  4. Check every drop

Offcuts and paste cleared away, then a look over the finished walls with you in good light before we leave.

Common questions

Can you remove our old wallpaper first?
Yes, stripping the old paper and cleaning off the residue is part of the job. We then make good the wall underneath so the new paper has a sound, smooth surface to go onto.
Should I supply the wallpaper, or will you?
Either works. Most clients choose the paper they love and we'll tell you roughly how many rolls to order for the pattern repeat; or we can pick it up for you. Order a little extra so there's no risk of a dye-lot mismatch part way through.
Can you do just one feature wall?
Absolutely, a single feature wall is a popular, cost-effective way to add character. We'll set it out so the pattern sits well against the corners and any fixtures.
Will the seams show?
Done properly, no. Matching the pattern and butting the seams tightly is the skilled part of the job, and it's exactly what you're paying for.

We have had our bedrooms recently decorated and we are so happy with the results. Bill had a difficult job taking off wallpaper in all of the rooms, then preparing them for papering with lining paper. The paper he used is really high quality and has given a flawless finish. He then painted them all. I was worried we'd be able to see the joins but it's completely smooth. We also had a patch where we'd had a leak and he repaired it so you can't tell. Would definitely use him again for any future decorating projects. Really professional and excellent with communication.

Bill and his team did a splendid job removing wallpaper and painting the walls in our hallway/stairs. They were so professional, efficient and understanding. I would recommend them to anyone needing their house painted or decorated.
