What changes the price
A real quote always comes from looking at the job. The main things that move the price are:
- How much preparation the surfaces need, filling, sanding, repairs and old gloss take time
- The size and number of rooms, and the ceiling height
- How many coats the chosen colour and paint need to cover properly
- Extras like plastering, lining paper, wallpaper or coving
- Access for exterior work, and the condition of the masonry and woodwork
- The finish you choose, premium paints cost more than standard trade

From ballpark to written quote
The calculator gives you a range; the real number comes from looking at the job. We’ll visit free of charge, check the condition of the surfaces — preparation is usually the biggest variable in any decorating price — and follow up with a written, no-obligation quote. Every quote includes:
- The preparation the surfaces actually need — never skipped to hit a price
- Protection for floors and furniture, and a tidy-up at the end of every day
- Any access needed for exterior work (towers or scaffold), so nothing gets added later

Pricing questions, answered
- Why don't you publish fixed prices?
- Because two rooms the same size can be very different jobs. A wall that needs stripping, filling and lining costs more than one that needs a light sand and two coats — and you can't tell which is which without looking. Fixed prices sight-unseen either overcharge the easy jobs or shortchange the hard ones, so we quote each job on what it actually needs.
- Is the calculator's figure a quote?
- No — it's an honest ballpark to help you budget and compare. The written quote you get after a free visit is the number that stands, and it won't grow hidden extras once the work starts.
- Does getting a quote commit me to anything?
- Nothing at all. Quotes are free and no-obligation. Take your time, compare us with others, and if the timing or budget isn't right, no hard feelings.
- How can I keep the cost down?
- Honest answers: do several rooms in one visit rather than one at a time, be flexible on timing, clear the rooms as far as you can before we arrive, and spend the budget on preparation rather than the most expensive paint. We'll always tell you where money is well spent on your job and where it isn't.
